Online Rummy Rules: Sequences, Sets and a Valid Declaration

Start with the Hand You Need to Finish

Know what completes a hand before the first turn. In this 13-card format, arrange legal groups before declaring. Check the table’s joker rules; the app cannot make an invalid hand legal.

Terms You Will See at the Table:

  • Cards in a Run: Three consecutive same-suit ranks form a sequence, such as 5♦–6♦–7♦. A pure sequence uses no substitute joker and is normally required in a valid hand.
  • Matching-Rank Groups: A set joins three or four equal ranks in different suits, such as K♥–K♠–K♦.
  • Using a Substitute: A joker fills an allowed gap, but cannot replace the required natural sequence.
